An Introduction To David Zitting

David Zitting’s Thoughts On Teamwork And Creative Thought

I love being around people, and even more love meeting new people. The part I don’t connect with is when everyone in the controlled group feels that they must think the same way.  I guess it’s fair to say that I’m somewhat of an individualist, but one that also loves to work with interesting and amazing people. I enjoy having the ability to share independent thought, ideas, and concepts with a group and respect when any other individual challenges mine or the group’s ideas.

Some of my dearest friends –the people that I have the most respect for—are those that speak what they really think, not what the world wants them to think. I also don’t want to confuse this personality trait with the lack of team spirit, or suggest that I don’t value team effort. On the contrary, I live and breathe the value of engaging and working hand-in-hand with amazing team members that also share my passion for individual thinking and the confidence that comes with sharing one’s personal opinion. In fact, I wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for the amazing team that provides me the opportunity to fully and completely share my thoughts, ideas, and concepts, and they know they are free to do the same with me.

Growing Up As An Entrepreneur

I grew up in a very entrepreneurial environment. My dad started his own business when I was very young and we were always encouraged to follow our dreams—to be whatever we wanted to be. Starting his own business meant he didn’t have a lot of extra time, but he was there for me when I needed him. My parents always told me nothing is impossible and they were often looking for ways to encourage my dreams. One week I would want to be an astronaut, so my family would buy me books on space. The next week I would want to be a jet fighter, so my parents drove me to Hill Air Force Base. There was no limit to the support and feedback my family would give me. They just believed that my sheer energy would eventually propel me into some future that excited me.

Not only did I have the support of my family, but I was constantly surrounded by educated, smart, and simply amazing people. I was also raised in a family with a strong sense of right and wrong—something that has been instilled in me since birth. I am very lucky to have been born into a family that not only knew the differences between right and wrong, but also practiced it! Understanding what is right is only the first step, executing it is the second. My family helped me learn both, which is why I like being bold and leading the charge. It’s easy to find what’s right—if you look. Once you’ve found it, often it’s not easy to execute on, but it always saves time, energy, and heartburn if you do.
